The Historic Risley School Digital Archives preserves the history of the various schools that have held the name "Risley" between 1870 and 1970 in Brunswick, Georgia. Founded during the Reconstruction era as a school for Brunswick's African American community, the buildings on Risley's campus (and nearby on Albany Street) continued serving as one of the area's segregated elementary and junior high schools, and as the community's only segregated high school during the Jim Crow era.

For decades, Risley schools fostered pride and served as the catalyst for the education and advancement of Brusnwick's African American community.  The schools attracted talented and accomplished faculty and staff, and produced generations of successful graduates.

This archives collects, preserves, and promotes the history and people of the historic schools that bear the Risley name.  The collections consist of photos of the institutions, faculty, staff, students, clubs, and organizations over the years.  The archival collection also contains documents and materials related to the schools' administration and everyday life for Risley students.
